A lot of people open their betting app, find a slip somebody posted, and ask:

Is this going to hit?

By then, they’ve already skipped most of what matters.

The pick is not the research. It’s what you arrive at after the research. Starting with somebody else’s slip means trusting that a stranger did the work, considered the risks and chose a fair betting line.

Most of the time, you have no idea.

That’s how donating happens.

Before I bet, I’m trying to understand the game first. The matchup, the player’s role, the market that fits and whether the available line is still worth taking.

With MLB, that can mean looking at the starting pitcher, handedness splits, pitch mix, bullpen usage, lineup placement, park factors, weather and recent form.

Not every stat matters equally in every matchup. The point is to figure out what actually matters today.

A good player is not automatically a good bet. A hitter can have a great season and still be in a bad spot. A strong matchup might point to a hit or total bases, not necessarily a home run.

Sometimes the research leads to no bet at all.

The line matters too. Over 0.5 hits is a different bet from over 1.5 total bases. Something that looked good at -115 may not be worth chasing at -175.

And yes, good bets still lose.

Probability is not a promise. A 60% outcome still fails 40% of the time. One win does not prove the read was sharp, and one loss does not prove it was bad.

After the game, I want to know whether the player got the opportunities I expected, whether the matchup played out the way I thought and whether the number was reasonable.

That gives me more insight than just looking at the final outcome.

She Bets is about sharing that process—what I’m looking at, what could go wrong and how I decide where the value is.

Not so you can follow blindly.

So you can start seeing the game for yourself.

Before You Bet

Before placing anything, ask:

1. What has to happen?

2. What supports the read?

3. Is there enough opportunity?

4. Is this the right market?

5. Is the number worth it?

And one final question:

Would I still bet this if nobody had posted it first?
